5* 19-0 Perfect System Play 2:05 PM EST

Houston (Lyles) (-105) vs. Pittsburgh (McDonald)

It was another century the last time the Pittsburgh Pirates were over .500 this late in the season. If you think that is shocking consider the answer to this quick trivia question. With a staff ERA of 2.75, which team is the MLB pitching leader in the last 4 weeks? Answer: Only those of you who identified these Pittsburgh Pirates will have the proper answer. There is a good chance, however, that excellence won’t continue today. In 34 2/3 IP on the road, McDonald has a 6.49 ERA. The Pirates have won only 3/12 of McDonalds recent road starts. Lyles was solid in this only home start of the year allowing 2 runs in 6 1/3 IP vs. Atlanta in his previous outing. After 3 starts, he has a 12/3 KBB. Despite a pair of losses to begin this series, the Astros are 22-5, 12-3 and 9-2 vs. the Pirates at this site. All of this is backed by the fact that the Pirates are 0-19 to sweep a series of 3 or more games this season.

4* Milwaukee (Greinke) (-130) vs. Chicago Cubs (Garza) 2:20 PM EST

After Milwaukees come-back win for us last night vs. the Cubs, Chicago has dropped to 4-12 L 16 games being outscored 87-50. Milwaukee, conversely, is on positive runs of 25-10 and 18-7. In his last 7 starts, Greinke is 6-0 profiting from 5.4 RPG support. For the season, he has a 60/7 KBB. The Cubs will be hard-pressed to decipher his slants in their 1st meeting ever against them. Garza, as many of the Cubs starters, is a mediocre 2-6 with a 3.84 ERA.

3* Atlanta (ACTION -120) vs. NY Mets 7:10 PM EST

The Braves have cooled following their 30-11 hot streak. They have now lost 3 straight. The Mets are quietly surging at 9-4 MRT. But the Mets are 0-11 to sweep a road series. While the Braves have suffered no 3 game series sweep the entire year, and, in fact, are 3-0 to avoid a 3 game series sweep.

5* 16-0 Series Dominator Play 12:35 PM EST

Toronto (Stewart) (-115) vs. Baltimore (Guthrie)

Zack Stewart makes his MLB debut replacing Kyle Drabak. In Stewarts last 3 outings in the Minors, he posted a 2.37 ERA. His mound opponent today, Guthrie, is 0-4 with a 4.73 his last 7 vs. Toronto. For the year, he is just 2-8 with a 3.77 ERA and recently, 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA his L4. Baltimore is on another downward slide at 0-4 allowing 26 runs. After wins the last 2 nights vs. Baltimore, Toronto is now a perfect 16-0 on this field in this series. In that time frame, they have outscored Baltimore 96-41 for an average of 6.0 to 2.5 RPG.

5* Bounce Back Beatdown 1:05 PM EST

Detroit (Scherzer) (-165) vs. Cleveland (Talbot)

Despite the come-back win vs. Detroit last night, Cleveland remains on negative runs of 6-15 and 3-10. The Tigers positive momentum have left them with a record of 12-5 of late. They have owned this series at this site with a mark of 16-3 outscoring Cleveland 109-55. Admittedly, Talbot has pitched better on the road than at home with some recent success against Detroit. But for the season, he has a 4.01 ERA and a lifetime mark of 5.18 ERA vs. Detroit. Scherzer hit a dry spell after a hot start. But we gladly back him following his return to form game in which he allowed just 1 run in 4 hits in 7 IP. Run line players take note: 14-15 Cleveland losses have been by 2+ runs in their losing streak. For Detroit, 30/37 wins for the year to date have come by 2 or more runs.

4* Top Dog of the Day 1:05 PM EST

NY Yankees (Gordon) (+115) vs. Texas (Wilson)

The Rangers were playing good ball, on a 13-6 run, keyed by the return of Hamilton to the lineup. Now, they enter today on a 4 game losing streak on the verge of being swept by the Yankees. Though Wilson has been solid all year long for the Rangers, he posted a 5.65 ERA in 3 meetings vs. NYY last year. Now, it’s the Yankees who are on a hot streak with a recent record of 17-7 when not facing a team that has Boston emblazoned on their jerseys. Gordon gets his 1st Major League start after being acquired from the Phillies Minor League system. In AAA ball, he was 5-0 with a 1.14 ERA. The Yankees, on a roll, too tough to pass up as home dog in this one.
